about Tasherre:
Born Derrick La' Mont Thompson December 15, 1974 in Detroit, MI. Tasherre's parents originally planned for him to be born in their hometown of Farmerville, LA. After waiting longer then they planned, they returned to Detroit where he was born the following morning. As a child Tasherre gained his love music from his parents who constantly had Soul, Funk and R&B playing throughout the house. Coming up in the late 70's also gave him the oppurtunity to be exposed to Hip-Hop very early age. By age 8, Tasherre began rapping imitating rappers who were well known at the time, exchanging their lyrics for his own. The producer in him was revealed when he received his first keyboard at age 11 and immediately began making his own music. At 13, his father paid for his first studio session where the song "I Can't Be Stopped" was recorded to be performed in a talent show two weeks later. Through his teenage years Tasherre developed his Emcee skills as most teens did in the lunchroom while banging on tables and beatboxing in cyphers. Simultaneously the Producer skills were being developed at home, where just about every night was spent making beats. By 16 he had a fully functional home recording studio that he purchased himself. Nothing too fancy, just a full size Casio keyboard, a Boss drum machine, two tape decks and a mic (that actually hung from the ceiling!). On half days he and his friends would meet up and record for hours. In his senior year of high school Tasherre shocked his parents when he told them he didn't want to attend their alma mater Grambling State University. He felt he that his time would be better spent pursuing his music career. As a compromise, he ended up attending Specs Howard School of Broadcasting where he obtained his skills for broadcasting as well as a degree. Tasherre spent most of his early 20's working full time to pay bills and less time concentrating on his music. Working jobs that required alot of his time and being too exhausted to do anything afterwards, he regretfully admits that he missed the entire Hip-Hop Shop and Rhythm Kitchen era. This is where well know alot of well known Michigan Hip-Hop Artists got their start. But as they say, everything happens for a reason. Even though Tasherre wasn't there to witness and participate in the magic, he did find a way to support through collecting those and other Michigan Hip-Hop Artists' music. 1998 would prove to be a pivotal year in his life when he met his would be mentor PMC after a talent show where they both performed. The two lost contact but would run into each other again in 1999 immediately after Tasherre started his label N.E.I. Records. PMC who just started ReAL Entertainment along side Jon Robinson and Don Ferguson, asked Tasherre to come along for the ride. Putting N.E.I. on hold he joined to help what he thought would be a greater cause. Later on Tasherre, PMC, and newcomer Don Juan formed the group UE (Uppa Echelon) and performed many shows together. During the next few years Tasherre would not only gain his business sense, he would also become more polished in his song writing, production, and performance. Developing a style of his own which earned him the title of D'Enajetic. In 2002 after finally releasing their first major release Tasherre parted ways with the soon to be defunct ReAL Entertainment for personal reasons. Now more educated and business saavy, he set out on his quest. In 2003 Tasherre came back on the scene with a bang. Not only jump starting a new solo career, relaunching his label NE.I. Records and also releasing Game Over, which were songs created during the time he was with ReAL Entertainment but were never released. In the summer Tasherre would also launch Underworld Radio, an internet radio station that plays nothing but Michigan Hip-Hop 24 hours a day. Doing this gained him a massive amount of respect from the fans as well as Michigan Hip-Hop artists. In Jan 2004 Tasherre teamed up with United States of Mind to create what is now known as $3 Tues. Every week Michigan Hip-Hop artists are given the chance to showcase their talent in what has been called "The Best Hip-Hop Nite in Michigan". In April, Tasherre released the Mitten Militia Mixtape under the Underworld Radio imprint. The first of its kind, MMM featured all Michigan Hip-Hop artists in traditional mixtape form. Once again gaining him more praise and respect from the scene. In the summer of 2004 in an attempt to make new shirts for Underworld Radio, Tasherre started the "Rep It or Leave It" clothing line. In November Tasherre mutually left the USM crew taking full control of $3 Tues and continuing at the new and current location. Finally in December 2004, after having a very busy year, Tasherre released his debut album "Enavisions". An album many uphold as a classic, documenting Tasherre's ups and downs with his career and life, his love and disgust for music, and his undying love for Michigan Hip-Hop. Also noted as one of the Most Anticipated and Most Slept On releases of 2004. It would seem that after all Tasherre has been through he would be content with his success. Truth be told...he has only just begun.
